<p><em><strong>Colds:  Find a cure and millions upon millions will die because a cold is the body&#8217;s method of elimination by dumping toxins, viruses and bacterial overwhelm.</strong></em></p>
<p>Eating foods high in <a title="7 Principles of Health" href="http://dontolmanusa.com/self-care/seven-principles-of-health/" target="_blank">vitamin C</a> is the number one best thing you can do for a cold.</p>
<p>A great thing to do for colds and a sore throat is to eat sliced onions.  Eat them raw or cooked slowly; do not brown them, though.  Put them then in water until they are almost a syrup and add a squirt of lemon and a tablespoon of honey and mix well.  Some people strain the onion out, and others drink it down with the syrup.</p>
<p><a title="Garlic" href="http://dontolmanusa.com/self-care/garlic/" target="_blank">Garlic </a>is also a renowned remedy for colds.</p>
<p>Drink vitamin C-rich juice like orange, tomato, grapefruit or pineapple.  This can help you get over a cold, if you drink at least five glasses a day.  Studies show it takes that much whole food vitamin C to reduce sneezes and coughs in cold sufferers.</p>

<p>A <strong>Medi-Sin</strong> is a <strong>pHARMACEUTi-KILL</strong>, <strong>Medi-Kill</strong>, agricultural, environmental or commercial product or procedure whose creation and design is put into place simply for MONEY&#8230;Medi-SINS that are &#8216;violent against innocent&#8217;, (cells are innocent) any mediKILL application that promotes death, violates or alters the natural, innate, and inherent autogenic self-healing function of the body.  All &#8216;food-less foods and life-less drinks&#8217; that are laced with toxic chemicals (most are also sold as mediKILL drugs/medi-SINs), genetically altered, or grown in a laboratory are all Medi-Sins.  These mass-marketed consumer products cause long-term chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancers due to the molecular structure of the body&#8217;s cells being altered, damaged and killed.  For example: Vioxx and Celebrex are blatant Medi-Sins because they deplete the endogenous production of one of the most important essentials of the the heart&#8217;s cell, what chemical nutritionists call co-enzyme Q10, which is in every whole food, naturally&#8230;</p>

<p>So if you&#8217;re feeling down in the dumps, melancholy, like life is dragging you down and dragging you out, try one of these proven methods for making your spirits soar.</p>
<p><em><strong>Sit back and enjoy</strong></em> (or at least tolerate) the tumble.  Benjamin Franklin said that nothing is certain in this world but death and taxes.  He missed something&#8230;<a href="http://dontolmanusa.com/self-care/depression/" target="_blank">sadness</a>.</p>
<p><em><strong>Realize that feeling a little sad is no big deal.</strong></em> Understand that the down feelings are temporary.  In other words, don&#8217;t get sadder because you&#8217;re sad.</p>
<p><em><strong>Do something <a href="http://dontolmanusa.com/self-care/seven-principles-of-health/" target="_blank">active</a>. </strong></em> Hanging around the house and moping is sure to make you more depressed.  So this home remedy involves getting away from home.  It doesn&#8217;t really matter much what you choose to do as long as it&#8217;s something active.  so, go for a walk, take a bike ride, visit a friend, play a game of chess, read a book or become a Big Brother.  Please note, though, that turning the knob on the television set is not being active.</p>
<p><strong><em>Search your memory for fun things to do.</em></strong> The best way to pick an activity is to start by jotting down a list of things you enjoy.  The problem, of course, is that nothing looks too enjoyable when you&#8217;re down and out.  What to do?  List activities that you used to enjoy, pick one and do it!</p>
<p><strong><em>Talk it out. </em></strong> It&#8217;s always helpful to share your feelings with someone.  Find friends who care about you and tell them what&#8217;s on your mind&#8230;</p>
<p><strong><em>Have a good cry.</em></strong> If talking about your problems leads to tears then let them flow.  Crying is a wonderful release especially if you know what you&#8217;re crying about.</p>
<p><strong><em>Sit down and analyze the situation.</em></strong> A lot of times, if you can pinpoint the source of your depression, you&#8217;ll feel better.  Once you understand the problem, you can begin to figure out how to fix it.</p>
<p><strong><em>Try and try again</em></strong> &#8211; then quit.  As kids and adolescents, we have ideas of what life will bring, and sometimes we hang on to them even when life dictates that these ideas are unrealistic.  Chasing elusive goals can lead to depression.  This is when you simply have to say &#8220;I&#8217;ve given it my best shot&#8221;, then give up.</p>
<p><strong><em>The Nutrition Prescription.</em></strong> Nutrition, more than anything else, controls your state of mind.  The most beneficial nutrients for depression is whole food <a href="http://dontolmanusa.com/self-care/bananas-nutrient-powerhouse/" target="_blank">B vitamins</a> and amino acids.</p>
<p><em><strong>Exercise.</strong></em> Numerous studies show that exercise can help overcome the blues.  If you are already in good physical shape because of regular exercise, but you&#8217;re in poor mental shape, consider going for total exhaustion.  This is a good way to discharge your tensions.</p>
<p><em><strong>Pick up a box of crayons. </strong></em> A great way to express your feelings is by writing them down, or better yet, by drawing them.  If you sit down immediately after something upsets you and start to draw, you might be surprised at the insight you&#8217;ll gain into your emotions.  Use lots of color.  A choice of red could suggest anger; black, sadness, and gray, anxiety.</p>
<p><em><strong>Adjust the facts, ma&#8217;am.</strong></em> Sometimes when you start to gauge your assumptions against reality, you may find things aren&#8217;t as you think they are.  For instance, if you suspect your lover may be cheating on you, which is a good reason to be depressed, go ahead and ask.  You may be wrong.&#8221;</p>

<p><strong>For Filling:</strong><br />
1 tablespoon unsalted butter<br />
1/2 cup leeks, thinly sliced<br />
…2 garlic cloves, minced<br />
5 1/2 cups mushrooms<br />
1/2 cup dry white wine<br />
1/2 cup pearl barley<br />
1 cup gruyere, grated<br />
2 tablespoons creme fraiche<br />
1/4 cup parsley, finely chopped<br />
1 teaspoon salt<br />
1 teaspoon pepper<br />
<strong>For Crust:</strong><br />
1 package high quality frozen puff pastry, thawed<br />
1 egg, beaten<br />
1 teaspoon water<br />
pinch of salt<br />
Wash, rinse, then soak barley in cold water. Let stand for 30 minutes while preparing other ingredients, then drain.</p>
<p>Boil water and barley in a medium saucepan, and salt to taste; simmer uncovered for 12 minutes or until tender. Drain.<br />
Melt butter with oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Toss in the  leeks, stirring frequently for 2 to 3 minutes. Add mushrooms, garlic,  salt and pepper, stirring occasionally for about 5 minutes. Add wine and  simmer 2 minutes. Stir in barley and let cool completely. Mix in crème  fraiche, gruyere, parsley. Salt and pepper to taste.</p>

<p>Today, pharmaceutical science is jealous, envious and even hateful of plants and their attendant work, they do their work, their magic and wonders, without doing harm.  There is not one vaccine or drug that do that.  In my mind, I can see a time coming early on in the &#8220;<em>Age of Imagination</em>&#8221; we are now in, when every man, woman and child embraces &#8220;<em>Self Care</em>&#8221; by walking everyday, eating just whole foods and developing and maintaining a positive (<em>inner sunshine</em>) attitude.  These things go a long way to not only prevent disease but to remit existing conditions.  I do believe that within this next decade, the best of modern medicine, symptomatic response mechanism in the form of &#8220;<em>first aid</em>&#8220;, will be joined with ancient natural principles of &#8220;<em>folk medicinal cures</em>&#8221; to form a hybrid, &#8220;<em><strong>in home </strong></em>(<em>effective and cost effective</em>) <em><strong>clinics of Self Care</strong></em>.&#8221;</p>
