<p>2600 years ago, in order to attend the Pythagorean Academy, on had to fast on air, water and sunshine for 40 days and nights.  Once accomplished, upon entrance to the academy, an initiate was given fresh raw foods to eat and a should strap pouch filled with a fresh &#8220;<em>millstone-crushed hand-assembled Golden Measure Meal</em>&#8221; that Pythagoras himself referred toa s the &#8220;<em>Meal of Hercules</em>&#8221; in honor of the most brilliantly inspired men and women of Egypt, Caanan, Phoenicia, Syria, Greece, Etruscans, Romans and others that stacked and called the transcendentally measured golden meal &#8220;<em>Phi Pi</em>&#8220;.  Pythagoras and his students (<em>in secret and with great reverence</em>) &#8220;<strong>passed mouth to ear</strong>&#8221; the name Phei Pei, (<em>ancient Greek spelling</em>) and its signatures of sacred geometric ratios one to another in hopes of preserving the knowledge of this precious gift to mankind down through time.</p>
<p>In Babylon, Daniel and his friends requested a diet of <a title="What is Pulse?" href="http://dontolmanusa.com/ancient-wisdom/pulse/" target="_blank">Pulse </a>(<em>phi pi</em>) and water rather than the King&#8217;s meat.  After ten days, the king found them to be stronger and brighter.  After three years, he found them to be ten times better in wisdom than the most learned men of his kingdom.</p>
<p>Ancient Semitic-speaking tribes, such as the Essenes, Hebrews, and various Caananite groups viewed the body as a &#8220;<em>Sacred Living Temple</em>&#8220;.  The most sacred food they believed that could be offered into the temple as a single meal &#8220;<strong>tithe or mincha</strong>&#8221; was translated from ancient Hebrew scrolls into English, as &#8220;<em>Pulse</em>&#8220;.  Eating <a title="What is Pulse?" href="http://dontolmanusa.com/ancient-wisdom/pulse/" target="_blank">Pulse </a>or, more accurately, &#8220;<em>Phi Pi</em>&#8221; and water for ten days straight appears to have been a very common initiation or introduction to this (<em>profound and, by all appearances, doxological</em>) feast.</p>

<p><strong>Natural sea salt </strong>(reconstituted seawater) allows liquids to freely cross body membranes, the kidney&#8217;s glomeruli and blood vessels walls.  Whenever the sodium chloride concentration rises in the blood, the water in the neighboring tissues is attracted to that salt-rich blood, and the cells the re-absorb the enriched intra-cellular fluid.  If they are functioning properly, the kidneys remove the saline fluids easily.  Refined salt does not allow this free crossing of liquids and minerals and causes accumulated fluids to stagnate in joints, producing edema and chronic kidney problems.</p>
<p><strong>Salt </strong>is the single element required for the proper breakdown of plant carbohydrates into usable and assailable human food.  <strong>ONLY WHEN SALT IS</strong> added to fruits and vegetables can saliva and gastric secretions readily break down the fibrous store of carbohydrates, etc.  Once salt is dissolved and ionized, the salt possesses a definite reactivity, has full electromagnetic capabilities, and passes more easily into the large colon where it will have a sanitizing effect.</p>
<p>People who eat refined salt develop a craving for salt, because the salt that they eat is not satisfying their needs.  They then use more and more salt, in the desperate effort to get what they need; taking big amounts of refined salt (chemical) burdens the kidneys and and adrenal glands that are very important for calcium utilization.  Modern physiology has demonstrated that an excess of refined salt interferes with the absorption of nutrients and depletes calcium.  Sea salt enhances calcium absorption and nutrient utilization in general.</p>
<p>A small amount of salt can be added to a glass of water to dissolve and to activate its powers.  Adding salt to your drinking water adds alkaline properties and mineral content.  The minerals it contains are too valuable to ignore.</p>
<p>Salt, water and sunshine mixed is the very basis of all life and even health of a given life.  The earth is 70% water, so are our bodies.  90% of the earth&#8217;s water is salt water.  90% of our body&#8217;s water is salt water.  When sunlight shines on salt water it ionizes into calcium.  That&#8217;s why the ocean is filled with calcium; as it settles onto the floor of the ocean, it covers it with thick layers of calcium.  Coral calcium exists because of this.  All sea shells and crustaceans&#8217; shells (lobsters, oysters, mussels, crabs, etc.) are all made of calcium.  Then the overload of calcium ionizes into magnesium, then iron, then all of the known minerals.  The ocean is full of all known nutritional and non-nutritional minerals.  Your body does the same thing when you eat salt and drink water and get into sunlight.  Most people are mal-illuminated.  They fear the sun and salt because of Pharma/medical propaganda that uses that fear to sell products created by your lack of sunlight, water, and salt.  Good salt, sea rock, etc, not commercial Pharma salt with aluminum and other chemical additives, water and sunshine are the keys to health, especially heart health.</p>

<h2><strong>Helping Others Through Depression:</strong></h2>

<p>What&#8217;s the best thing to do if someone close to you gets depressed?</p>
<p>&#8220;<em><strong>Listen</strong></em>&#8221; more than anything; your friend needs an ear.  If someone you care about seems depressed and hasn&#8217;t said anything about it, go ahead and ask, &#8220;<em>Do you feel depressed?</em>&#8220;.  Follow this up with open-ended questions like, &#8220;<em>When did you first start feeling this way?</em>&#8220;.  This is a good question, because determining when a depression began often helps uncover the incident or incidents that might have sparked it.</p>
<p>As your friend opens up and starts talking about his depression, do your best to create a safe environment.  <strong>Don&#8217;t trivialize</strong> the situation by saying things like &#8220;<em>Oh, cut it out, you have no reason to be depressed.</em>&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>Don&#8217;t offer easy solutions</strong> like &#8220;<em>You know, all you need is&#8230;</em>&#8220;  Instead, let the person find his own solutions, using you as a sounding board for ideas.</p>
<p><strong>Do try </strong>to get the depressed person involved in physical activities like exercise.</p>
<p><strong>Do try </strong>to keep the person interested in finding solutions because remember: depression could be defined as a loss of interest in all things.</p>

<p><em><strong>Find something really boring to do.</strong></em> What you may need to snap you out of the blues is simply something to distract you; to shift your attention away from your woes.  To do this, pick something dreadfully boring to do and do it.  Like what?  Well, you could clean your bathroom tiles with a toothbrush, or study the same leaf again and again and again.</p>
<p><em><strong>Slow down.</strong></em> Life in the twentieth century can be might hectic at times.  If you suspect your depression is from over-scheduling, you may simply need to relax.  Give yourself more time for things like warm baths or massages.</p>
<p><em><strong>Avoid making major decisions.</strong></em> You can&#8217;t really trust your judgment when you&#8217;re depressed.  Major life decision should be put off till you&#8217;re feeling better because if you should make the wrong decisions, it can only drag you down further.</p>
<p><em><strong>Treat others with respect.</strong></em> Being depressed, you may be inclined to be snippy with other people.  Don&#8217;t do it, for others may be snippy right back, which is the last thing you need when you&#8217;re down.</p>
<p><em><strong>Stay out of department stores.</strong></em> Just as snapping at other people can have a boomerang effect on your depression, so can shopping binges.  That is, while they can be loads of fun, they can come back to haunt you when the bills come in.</p>
<p><em><strong>Close the refrigerator.</strong></em> Eating binges of junk food also have a boomerang effect.  While a junk binge might make you feel good at the moment, it can add depressing inches to your waistline.  Get out of the house, if you have to, to overcome the urge to eat.</p>
<p><em><strong>Vigorous exercise</strong></em> can be an effective antidote to bouts of depression.  During exercise, the brain produces pain-killing chemicals called endorphins and enkephalins.  When certain endorphins and other brain chemicals are released in response to exercise, people say they feel really good.  This may explain why exercise and sunshine are the best ways to rid yourself of depression.</p>
<p><a href="http://dontolmanusa.com/ancient-wisdom/white-stone-carillon/" target="_blank"><em><strong>Music </strong></em></a>can also have a powerful effect on mood and useful for alleviating depression.</p>

<p><em><strong>Sit back and enjoy</strong></em> (or at least tolerate) the tumble.  Benjamin Franklin said that nothing is certain in this world but death and taxes.  He missed something&#8230;<a href="http://dontolmanusa.com/self-care/depression/" target="_blank">sadness</a>.</p>
<p><em><strong>Realize that feeling a little sad is no big deal.</strong></em> Understand that the down feelings are temporary.  In other words, don&#8217;t get sadder because you&#8217;re sad.</p>
<p><em><strong>Do something <a href="http://dontolmanusa.com/self-care/seven-principles-of-health/" target="_blank">active</a>. </strong></em> Hanging around the house and moping is sure to make you more depressed.  So this home remedy involves getting away from home.  It doesn&#8217;t really matter much what you choose to do as long as it&#8217;s something active.  so, go for a walk, take a bike ride, visit a friend, play a game of chess, read a book or become a Big Brother.  Please note, though, that turning the knob on the television set is not being active.</p>
<p><strong><em>Search your memory for fun things to do.</em></strong> The best way to pick an activity is to start by jotting down a list of things you enjoy.  The problem, of course, is that nothing looks too enjoyable when you&#8217;re down and out.  What to do?  List activities that you used to enjoy, pick one and do it!</p>
<p><strong><em>Talk it out. </em></strong> It&#8217;s always helpful to share your feelings with someone.  Find friends who care about you and tell them what&#8217;s on your mind&#8230;</p>
<p><strong><em>Have a good cry.</em></strong> If talking about your problems leads to tears then let them flow.  Crying is a wonderful release especially if you know what you&#8217;re crying about.</p>
<p><strong><em>Sit down and analyze the situation.</em></strong> A lot of times, if you can pinpoint the source of your depression, you&#8217;ll feel better.  Once you understand the problem, you can begin to figure out how to fix it.</p>
<p><strong><em>Try and try again</em></strong> &#8211; then quit.  As kids and adolescents, we have ideas of what life will bring, and sometimes we hang on to them even when life dictates that these ideas are unrealistic.  Chasing elusive goals can lead to depression.  This is when you simply have to say &#8220;I&#8217;ve given it my best shot&#8221;, then give up.</p>
<p><strong><em>The Nutrition Prescription.</em></strong> Nutrition, more than anything else, controls your state of mind.  The most beneficial nutrients for depression is whole food <a href="http://dontolmanusa.com/self-care/bananas-nutrient-powerhouse/" target="_blank">B vitamins</a> and amino acids.</p>
<p><em><strong>Exercise.</strong></em> Numerous studies show that exercise can help overcome the blues.  If you are already in good physical shape because of regular exercise, but you&#8217;re in poor mental shape, consider going for total exhaustion.  This is a good way to discharge your tensions.</p>
<p><em><strong>Pick up a box of crayons. </strong></em> A great way to express your feelings is by writing them down, or better yet, by drawing them.  If you sit down immediately after something upsets you and start to draw, you might be surprised at the insight you&#8217;ll gain into your emotions.  Use lots of color.  A choice of red could suggest anger; black, sadness, and gray, anxiety.</p>
<p><em><strong>Adjust the facts, ma&#8217;am.</strong></em> Sometimes when you start to gauge your assumptions against reality, you may find things aren&#8217;t as you think they are.  For instance, if you suspect your lover may be cheating on you, which is a good reason to be depressed, go ahead and ask.  You may be wrong.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;<a href="http://dontolmanusa.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/constipation.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-602" title="depression" src="http://dontolmanusa.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/constipation-150x150.jpg" alt="sad, blues" width="150" height="150" /></a>What you eat can either lift your mood or sink your mood.  Moreover, what you don&#8217;t eat can have as great an impact as what you do.</p>
<p>In your brain there are 200 billion brain cells called neurons and everything you do, from thinking and feeling to taking a walk, is influenced by neurons.</p>
<p>In a study in England, researchers gave people with clinical depression 200 micrograms of <a href="http://dontolmanusa.com/self-care/alleviating-constipation/" target="_blank">folic </a>acid, the amount in about 3/4 cup of cooked <a href="http://dontolmanusa.com/recipes/anthonys-green-smoothie/" target="_blank">spinach</a>, or a placebo.  After one year, those taking the folic acid saw their depression lift significantly.  In some cases their depression was lifted by as much as 40 percent.</p>
<p>Is life without your morning bagel not worth living?  Does your passion for pasta know no bounds?  Eat up; your moods will thank you for it.  Eating whole wheat and whole <a href="http://dontolmanusa.com/self-care/foods-healthiest/" target="_blank">grains </a>are the best.  Diets high in carbohydrate-rich foods have been shown to increase brain concentrations of the amino acid tryptophan.  The tryptophan then is converted in the body to mood-boosting serotonin.  Green leafy vegetables can also boost your serotonin  levels.</p>
<p>This could be why many people view their comfort foods as those high in carbohydrates.  These foods can help ease feelings of depression, anxiety, and <a href="http://dontolmanusa.com/self-care/cures-chronic-fatigue/" target="_blank">fatigue</a>.  For others, not eating carbohydrates may leave them grouchy and depressed.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ve probably experienced the droopy, let-down feeling that sometimes occurs after sipping a large cappuccino or binging on your favorite cookies.  This is not your imagination.  For sensitive individuals, the consumption of too much sugar or caffeine definitely contributes to feelings of depression.</p>
<p>Experts aren&#8217;t sure why sugar gives some people the blues, but it may be related to the amount of sugar you consume.  While indulging in an occasional candy bar or doughnut can trigger a &#8220;sugar buzz&#8221; that temporarily boosts your spirits, a <a href="http://dontolmanusa.com/self-care/food-allergies/" target="_blank">steady diet of sugar</a> seems to be linked with depression</p>
<p>Life (oweeeee!) might be compared to a roller coaster.  Rich man, poor man, beggar man, thief, doctor, lawyer, Indian Chief.  Everyone has ups and downs.  Even the top experts on depression occasionally get bottomed out.</p>
<p>What these depression experts know from experience, though, is that nearly all cases of depression, including the most serious ones, can be reversed.  For the not-so-serious cases, like <em>the blues, the blahs, or the I-just-don&#8217;t-want-to-get-out-of-bed days</em>, some very simple techniques can work wonders.  So if you&#8217;re feeling down in the dumps, melancholy, like life is dragging you down and dragging you out, try one of these proven methods for making your spirits soar.&#8221;</p>
