<p><em><strong>Colds:  Find a cure and millions upon millions will die because a cold is the body&#8217;s method of elimination by dumping toxins, viruses and bacterial overwhelm.</strong></em></p>
<p>Eating foods high in <a title="7 Principles of Health" href="http://dontolmanusa.com/self-care/seven-principles-of-health/" target="_blank">vitamin C</a> is the number one best thing you can do for a cold.</p>
<p>A great thing to do for colds and a sore throat is to eat sliced onions.  Eat them raw or cooked slowly; do not brown them, though.  Put them then in water until they are almost a syrup and add a squirt of lemon and a tablespoon of honey and mix well.  Some people strain the onion out, and others drink it down with the syrup.</p>
<p><a title="Garlic" href="http://dontolmanusa.com/self-care/garlic/" target="_blank">Garlic </a>is also a renowned remedy for colds.</p>
<p>Drink vitamin C-rich juice like orange, tomato, grapefruit or pineapple.  This can help you get over a cold, if you drink at least five glasses a day.  Studies show it takes that much whole food vitamin C to reduce sneezes and coughs in cold sufferers.</p>

<p>If your answer is &#8220;<em>yes</em>&#8221; to any or all of these questions, then there is one simple thing you can do.  Don&#8217;t let yourself become &#8220;<em>breathless</em>&#8221;  during your workout.  We undermine our breathing coordination, burn  sugar instead of fat for fuel and become tight and tense, which can  promote injury, when we become breathless.</p>
<p>The simplest  way to know whether you are exercising too intensely and becoming  breathless is to try to speak several sentences out loud while you&#8217;re  working out.  Your workout is no longer &#8220;<em>aerobic</em>&#8221; if you can&#8217;t do it without gasping for breath.  It is, or is about to become &#8220;<em>anaerobic</em>&#8220;, which means that it is proceeding without oxygen and you are no longer burning fat for fuel.</p>
<p>Inhaling  and exhaling only through your nose is a simple way to ensure that you  are working out at a level that will not make you breathless.  If you  try this, you will quickly discover, especially at the beginning, that  you will have to work at a less intense rate during your workout.   Gradually, your breathing coordination will improve and you will be able  to do more and progress more rapidly.</p>
<p>Eventually,  you&#8217;ll have more power and last longer than others who don&#8217;t know this  almost forgotten secret of the Ancient Olympiad.  Breathing through your  nose is a great regulator of CO2-to-oxygen ratio, and you actually run  internally better on  more CO2 than oxygen.</p>

<h2><strong>Helping Others Through Depression:</strong></h2>

<p>What&#8217;s the best thing to do if someone close to you gets depressed?</p>
<p>&#8220;<em><strong>Listen</strong></em>&#8221; more than anything; your friend needs an ear.  If someone you care about seems depressed and hasn&#8217;t said anything about it, go ahead and ask, &#8220;<em>Do you feel depressed?</em>&#8220;.  Follow this up with open-ended questions like, &#8220;<em>When did you first start feeling this way?</em>&#8220;.  This is a good question, because determining when a depression began often helps uncover the incident or incidents that might have sparked it.</p>
<p>As your friend opens up and starts talking about his depression, do your best to create a safe environment.  <strong>Don&#8217;t trivialize</strong> the situation by saying things like &#8220;<em>Oh, cut it out, you have no reason to be depressed.</em>&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>Don&#8217;t offer easy solutions</strong> like &#8220;<em>You know, all you need is&#8230;</em>&#8220;  Instead, let the person find his own solutions, using you as a sounding board for ideas.</p>
<p><strong>Do try </strong>to get the depressed person involved in physical activities like exercise.</p>
<p><strong>Do try </strong>to keep the person interested in finding solutions because remember: depression could be defined as a loss of interest in all things.</p>
<p>And that&#8217;s the end of this 4-part series.  We hope this helped to provide a better understanding of the overwhelming sensation of depression, maybe how to cope with it a bit better or to better understand someone else&#8217;s pain.</p>

<p>&#8220;For most of recorded history the only medicine available was folk  medicine.  Remedies will only be passed on for multiple generations and  for millenniums if they work.  Time and distance created the collective body of wisdom we call folk medicine.  Folk medicine then has truly  passed the test of time and passed the scrutiny of experience.</p>
<p>Folk medicine is the compendium of wisdom that reflects not just the science of health but also the art and the method of these principles.  For instance, the nature around us in the area of living chemistry presents an array of non-toxic healing substances that are the Materia Medica of nature&#8217;s apothecary.  Whole foods provide a safe, living, energetic, &#8220;<em>chemotherapy</em>&#8221; if you will.  Whole foods are the anatomica metabolic nutricon that constitutes folk medicine.</p>
<p>Today, pharmaceutical science is jealous, envious and even hateful of plants and their attendant work, they do their work, their magic and wonders, without doing harm.  There is not one vaccine or drug that do that.  In my mind, I can see a time coming early on in the &#8220;<em>Age of Imagination</em>&#8221; we are now in, when every man, woman and child embraces &#8220;<em>Self Care</em>&#8221; by walking everyday, eating just whole foods and developing and maintaining a positive (<em>inner sunshine</em>) attitude.  These things go a long way to not only prevent disease but to remit existing conditions.  I do believe that within this next decade, the best of modern medicine, symptomatic response mechanism in the form of &#8220;<em>first aid</em>&#8220;, will be joined with ancient natural principles of &#8220;<em>folk medicinal cures</em>&#8221; to form a hybrid, &#8220;<em><strong>in home </strong></em>(<em>effective and cost effective</em>) <em><strong>clinics of Self Care</strong></em>.&#8221;</p>
<p>Whole food and fasting, working with nature&#8217;s air and water, sunshine and walking, pleasure of family and relationships and passion in creative pursuits, these are the bed rock of vitality into longevity; these are the <a href="http://www.dontolmanstore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&amp;cPath=2&amp;products_id=10" target="_blank">seven Principles of Health</a>.  As our modern society&#8217;s very fabric seems to be fraying at the edges, it is obvious that the valuable heritage of natural healing preserved by &#8220;<strong><em>backward</em></strong>&#8221; (<em>truly genius</em>) people and their enviable lifestyle of simplicity through time, need to be not only applauded and honored, but fully embraced into the daily performances of our own individual existence.  <a href="http://dontolmanusa.com/" target="_blank">Self care</a>.  There truly is no greater power than an idea whose time has come.&#8221; &#8211; Don Tolman</p>

<p>There are commonly a number of simple causes of fatigue.  If we could eliminate those causes, fatigue would normally disappear.</p>
<p>One of the most rarely understood causes of fatigue is overeating.  We&#8217;re lead to believe generally that meals would be the very thing to help cure fatigue, but the reverse is actually the case.  While a heavier supper may enable some to sleep &#8211; the sleep of the drugged, it does not cause refreshment, putting the morning person in a partial stupor.</p>
<p>Too little exercise is another common cause of fatigue.  Again it would appear that exercise would cause fatigue in itself.  Not so!  Moderate exercise actually invigorates the body.  As the out-of-condition person begins to exercise, chronic fatigue may disappear like magic. The less you do, the less you can do.  The more you do, the more you&#8217;re body wants to do and the more you are capable of doing.</p>
<p>Another cause of weakness and fatigue is the use of too little water.  Drinking water will perk you up just as a wilted flower perks up in water.  Chronic dehydration is often caused by diuretics such as coffee, tea, cola, chocolate and over-eating.  Eating concentrated, rich or heavy food or consuming protein food supplements promote chronic dehydration.</p>
<p>There are other conditions of the body associated with fatigue like thyroid problems, blood sugar problems and many chronic diseases.</p>
